KaN was contracted by the Kingston YMCA & YMCA Farm Project, to develop a Master Plan Design for an inclusive, ADA accessible, Universal play space and community gathering, as well as an outdoor educational kitchen to expand the farm’s activities. KaN conducted a series of  educational workshops with the farm project students and met with the community and the youth for feedback all along the process.

The Play Space will Support Physical activities for people of all ages, from age 2 to adulthood (fitness station). The structures and equipment will appeal to users of diverse ages, abilities and interests. The space will offer varied and dynamic programming that’s responsive to the community’s needs to build a culture of partnerships and participation. 

Natural design features, such as community gardens, outdoor kitchen, outdoor stage, will encourage outdoor activities, local pride and intergenerational projects. Flexible design allows for customizing spaces for different uses. 

The community space will include a gathering space to allow for: Stage performance, tables and benches, outdoor kitchen, shipping container kitchen / learning and cooking, Way-finding, gateway, imagination playground for all ages, Play Equipment for 2/5, Play Equipment for 5/12, Adult/Senior Fitness Equipment,
